Bowen Yang Urges SNL Boss to Recast JD Vance Role

Bowen Yang has expressed his desire to step down from his role as Vice President J.D. Vance on Saturday Night Live, a character he finds particularly challenging to portray. During an appearance on The Daily Show, Yang revealed he initially begged SNL creator Lorne Michaels not to cast him in the role, suggesting other actors like Zach Galifianakis or Taran Killam instead. Despite his reservations, Yang has committed to the role, even working with an accent coach to accurately capture Vance's dialect. He acknowledges the unique challenge of being an Asian actor portraying Vance, noting that many viewers may question his casting. Yang debuted as Vance in the show's 50th season premiere last September and has since continued his portrayal, albeit with reluctance. He remains hopeful that Michaels will eventually consider recasting the role with someone else.
