Harris County Deputy Fatally Shot by Athir Murady

Harris County Pct. 4 Deputy Constable Maher Husseini was fatally shot on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, while stopped at a red light in west Houston. The suspect, Athir Murady, allegedly walked up to Husseini's SUV and shot him multiple times before fleeing. Murady was later apprehended in Galveston after a chase that ended with him driving into Galveston Bay. Murady's sister mentioned his mental health struggles and erratic behavior following their mother's death. Authorities are still investigating the motive, including the possibility of road rage. Murady faces charges and is expected to be denied bail upon his transfer to jail. Texas Governor Greg Abbott promised that the full weight of the law will be brought against the perpetrator.
