Columbia Faces Funding Freeze, Adopts IHRA Definition

Columbia University has formally adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism as part of sweeping reforms to address campus antisemitism. The university is responding to the freezing of over $400 million in federal funding by the Trump administration, which alleged Columbia failed to protect Jewish students during pro-Palestinian protests. Additional measures include appointing Title VI and VII coordinators, expanding antisemitism training, and implementing a zero-tolerance policy for hate. Columbia has pledged not to engage with certain pro-Palestinian student groups accused of disrupting campus activities. A potential hefty fine may also be included in the forthcoming agreement with the federal government.
