Ryder Cup Foursomes Announced After Ceremony Move
Because of a severe weather warning and heavy rain forecast for Thursday, the Ryder Cup opening ceremony was moved ahead to today and took place beside the 1st hole at Bethpage Black. Captains Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald introduced their teams and announced opening foursomes at about 4 p.m.: Jon Rahm/Tyrrell Hatton vs. Bryson DeChambeau/Justin Thomas; Ludvig Aberg/Matt Fitzpatrick vs. Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley; Rory McIlroy/Tommy Fleetwood vs. Collin Morikawa/Harris English; and Robert MacIntyre/Viktor Hovland vs. Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay. Afternoon four‑balls are scheduled to follow. Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy said they would welcome a direct matchup but acknowledged captains' selections make that uncertain, and both have downplayed personal animosity while trading barbs. DeChambeau said President Donald Trump's presence at opening day could "inspire" Team USA and is expected to draw strong reactions from the crowd. Organizers reshuffled some events and braced grandstand and hospitality plans for downpours as fans have already been vocal during practice rounds.
