HUD Revokes $4 Million in DEI Contracts

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), under Secretary Scott Turner, has canceled $4 million in contracts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, labeling them as unnecessary expenditures. This decision follows the efforts of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force, which has identified $260 million in potential savings. Turner, who has prioritized cost-cutting, emphasized that DEI efforts were consuming taxpayer resources without benefiting the public and described DEI as 'dead' at HUD. Additionally, DOGE uncovered $1.9 billion in funds that were misplaced during the Biden administration, which have now been recovered and made available for other uses by the Treasury. The cancellation of these contracts aligns with broader federal directives to enhance governmental efficiency and reduce waste. Turner's actions also reflect a shift away from policies introduced during the Obama administration, particularly concerning gender identity rules.
