Elon Musk's Boring Company plans 17 km Dubai Loop tunnel

Elon Musk's The Boring Company has partnered with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to develop the Dubai Loop, a 17-kilometer underground transport system aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the city. Announced during the World Governments Summit 2025, the project will initially feature 11 stations and is designed to transport 20,000 passengers per hour, with future expansion plans potentially increasing capacity to 100,000. Musk described the experience as akin to 'wormholing' across the city, emphasizing the project's innovative nature. The system will operate with electric vehicles at speeds up to 160 km/h, aligning with Dubai’s commitment to sustainability. The announcement marks The Boring Company's first major venture outside the U.S., following its existing project in Las Vegas. However, some experts question the feasibility of the tunnel system compared to traditional metro systems.
