Aaron Sorkin will write and direct 'The Social Network Part II' for Sony Pictures, continuing the story of Facebook with a focus on its global influence and internal controversies. The sequel will draw from The Wall Street Journal's 2021 'Facebook Files' and Frances Haugen's leaked documents, examining issues such as Facebook's role in the 2020 U.S. election, the January 6 Capitol riot, youth mental health, and the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. Sorkin has publicly criticized Facebook's divisive algorithms and emphasis on growth over integrity. Unlike the original film, David Fincher will not return as director, prompting mixed reactions from fans.
