Paul and Christy Akeo, an American couple imprisoned in Cancun, Mexico, over a timeshare dispute, have been released and returned home after nearly a month in custody. Their arrest followed allegations from Palace Resorts that they had defrauded the company out of over $116,000, which the couple contends was a legitimate credit card dispute. Michigan Representative Tom Barrett played a significant role in their release, visiting Mexico to negotiate with officials, while former President Donald Trump also intervened, instructing his team to assist. The couple expressed gratitude for the support they received, stating that a settlement was reached that dismissed the charges.
