Leaders Attend 9/11 Memorial Ceremonies

On September 11, 2024, President Biden, Vice President Harris, former President Trump, and Ohio Sen. JD Vance attended memorial ceremonies at the Sept. 11 Memorial, the Pentagon, and the Flight 93 National Memorial to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the 2001 terror attacks. Biden and Harris participated in a wreath-laying ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and later concluded their day with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon. Trump and Vance also paid respects by visiting a New York fire station. Amid the solemn commemorations, there is ongoing debate about whether September 11 should be designated a national holiday to ensure it remains a day of reflection and remembrance. Additionally, the day included various public safety alerts, such as red flag warnings for extreme fire conditions and a public safety outage watch by NV Energy. Flags were flown at half-staff to mark Patriot Day.
