Mexico Introduces App for Deported Citizens

The Mexican government is set to launch a 'panic button' app designed for Mexican nationals in the U.S. who fear imminent deportation, coinciding with President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration and his promises of mass deportations. This app will allow users to alert the nearest Mexican consulate and notify family members when facing potential detention. Mexican Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to support vulnerable citizens, as an estimated 4.8 million Mexicans lack legal residency in the U.S. President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration has also increased staffing at consulates to provide legal assistance to those affected. However, some critics view these measures as insufficient gestures in response to Trump's aggressive immigration policies. The app is currently in testing and is expected to roll out later this year.
