Ohio Secretary Refers 1,200+ Noncitizen Voting Cases to DOJ for Prosecution
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has referred over 1,200 criminal cases to the U.S. Department of Justice involving alleged election fraud, including 1,084 noncitizens who appear to have unlawfully registered to vote and 167 who may have cast illegal ballots in federal elections from 2018 to 2024. Additional cases involve 99 individuals who allegedly voted in two states during the same federal election, 16 who voted twice in Ohio in a single election, 14 votes cast after death, and several instances of ballot harvesting and improper registration. LaRose emphasized his office's commitment to election integrity, highlighting the work of Ohio's Election Integrity Unit and the cooperation with local prosecutors and federal authorities to ensure every legitimate vote is counted and election fraud is prosecuted. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to clean up voter rolls and address election-related crimes, with LaRose noting the support of the current DOJ administration in reviewing and potentially prosecuting these offenses. The referrals reflect years of investigation and data cross-checking with various state and federal databases to identify unlawful voting activities. LaRose affirmed that Ohio continues to uphold its reputation as a leader in election integrity and vowed serious consequences for those attempting to undermine the democratic process.
