Trump, Putin Begin Immediate Negotiations to End Ukraine War

In a recent phone conversation, President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to immediately start negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump described the call as 'lengthy and highly productive,' emphasizing the necessity to halt the conflict that has resulted in significant loss of life. Both leaders expressed a desire to work closely together and discussed the possibility of visiting each other's countries. The call followed a prisoner swap where the U.S. released Russian national Alexander Vinnik in exchange for the American Marc Fogel, which Trump viewed as a positive sign for future negotiations. Trump plans to inform Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about their discussions and has appointed key officials to lead the negotiation efforts. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov noted that Putin also sees a long-term solution to the conflict as achievable through peace talks.
