NVIDIA CEO Discusses Huawei AI Chip Risks with U.S. Lawmakers

Lawmakers and Nvidia executives highlighted the risk that, if Chinese AI models like DeepSeek R1 are trained or optimized for Huawei chips, this could spur global demand for Huawei hardware, potentially eroding the competitive position of U.S. technology firms. The talks also underscored the strategic importance of AI as national infrastructure and the need for further investment in U.S. manufacturing. Nvidia reiterated its support for U.S. efforts to promote domestic technology interests and noted it has designed chips for China that comply with U.S. regulations. However, recent U.S. government directives halted the sale of Nvidia's latest H20 chip to China, prompting Huawei to prepare mass production of competing chips to fill the resulting market gap.
