Polish PM Denies Trump Claims Russian Drone Incursion Deliberate
Polish officials, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, have strongly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that the recent incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace might have been accidental, insisting the attack was deliberate. Poland reported that at least 19 Russian drones crossed into its airspace, marking the first known instance of NATO territory being directly violated amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, and NATO allies responded by shooting down the drones. Tusk emphasized that Polish intelligence had clear information on the origin and intentions behind the drones, which were allegedly launched from Belarus, a close Russian ally currently conducting joint military exercises with Russia. Trump downplayed the incident, calling it a possible mistake, though he expressed frustration with the overall situation and has imposed some sanctions related to Russia's war efforts, while critics accuse him of being lenient toward Russia. The incident has raised tensions in the region, highlighting security concerns for NATO and European countries, with experts viewing the drone incursions as a deliberate test of NATO's readiness rather than an accident. These contrasting views between the U.S. president and Polish officials underscore differing perceptions of the threat posed by Russia's ongoing military actions in the region.
