Stellantis Plans $10B Investment in Illinois Michigan Plants
Stellantis plans to invest approximately $10 billion in its U.S. operations to strengthen its market presence under new CEO Antonio Filosa. This investment, potentially announced in two phases totaling around $5 billion each, will focus on reopening plants, expanding hiring, and launching new vehicle models in states including Illinois and Michigan. The automaker aims to revive the Jeep and Dodge brands, possibly introducing new models such as a Dodge V8 muscle car, while also considering long-term plans for Chrysler. This shift marks a strategic refocus on the U.S. market, moving away from prior emphasis on Europe and lower-cost countries like Mexico. The investment is partly motivated by efforts to mitigate tariff impacts and align with U.S. political developments under President Donald Trump, who is reportedly considering tariff relief for domestic auto production. Stellantis is currently undertaking a thorough evaluation of all future investments ahead of a strategy update and Capital Markets Day next year.
