Foxconn Begins iPhone 17 Production at $2.8B Bengaluru Plant

Foxconn has commenced limited-scale production of the iPhone 17 at its new Bengaluru factory, which is its second-largest manufacturing unit outside China and represents an investment of approximately $2.8 billion. Apple aims to increase its iPhone production in India to 60 million units in 2025, a significant rise from the 35-40 million units produced in 2024-25, with a majority of iPhones sold in the US in mid-2025 being assembled in India. This expansion underscores India's growing importance in Apple's global manufacturing strategy and reflects a 21.5% growth in iPhone shipments within India in 2025. The Bengaluru plant is part of a high-profile agreement between Foxconn and the Karnataka government, aimed at transforming Devanahalli into a tech manufacturing hub and generating thousands of local jobs. Apple and Foxconn have not publicly commented on these developments, but the move signals a major shift in the smartphone industry's production landscape.
