Iowa Governor Announces Department of Government Efficiency

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced the creation of a state-level Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aimed at reducing wasteful spending and improving government efficiency. During her State of the State address, she highlighted that Iowa has already saved taxpayers $217 million over the past three years through various streamlining efforts and emphasized her commitment to further savings. Emily Schmitt has been appointed to lead the new DOGE task force. This initiative follows similar announcements by other governors, including New Hampshire's Kelly Ayotte, who also aims to eliminate inefficiencies in government spending. Reynolds stated, 'I like to say that we were doing DOGE before DOGE was a thing,' indicating Iowa's proactive approach to government efficiency. The formation of state DOGE initiatives reflects a broader trend among Republican governors to adopt similar measures for fiscal responsibility.
