Trump to Meet Freed Ballerina Ksenia Karelina

President Donald Trump is set to meet Russian-American ballerina and esthetician Ksenia Karelina at the White House following her release from a Russian prison, where she was held for over a year on high treason charges for donating about $51 to a Ukrainian aid charity on the day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Karelina immigrated to the U.S. over a decade ago and became a citizen in 2021. She was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony, with charges against her widely condemned as politically motivated. Her release last month was secured through a CIA-negotiated prisoner exchange, after President Putin pardoned her. In return, the U.S. released Arthur Petrov, a Russian-German dual citizen accused of smuggling sensitive microelectronics to Russia. This marks the second major prisoner swap between the U.S. and Russia since Trump's return to office, amid ongoing tensions over the Ukraine war.
