Biden Visits Minnesota Capitol to Honor Slain Lawmaker, Husband

Former President Joe Biden visited Minnesota to pay respects to DFL House Leader Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, who were tragically shot and killed in a politically motivated attack on June 14. Biden attended the public lying in state of the couple at the Minnesota State Capitol, where he kneeled in front of their caskets and interacted with attendees. The couple’s golden retriever, Gilbert, who was also injured and later euthanized, was honored alongside them. Biden is also scheduled to attend the private funeral service alongside former Vice President Kamala Harris, which will be livestreamed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The attack also seriously injured State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, with Biden visiting Hoffman in the hospital where he is recovering. Thousands of Minnesotans, including friends, family, and lawmakers, joined Biden in paying tribute to the Hortmans during these solemn events.
