Former Deputy Charged with Murder in Shooting

Former Illinois sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson, charged with murder in the shooting of Sonya Massey, had a checkered employment history, including multiple DUI convictions before his law enforcement tenure. Grayson, who was fired after the incident, shot Massey in her home during a response to her 911 call about a prowler. Massey’s family, outraged and represented by attorney Ben Crump, highlighted her mental health struggles and criticized the hiring practices that overlooked Grayson's past. Separately, Madison County deputy Jonathon Thompson was arrested for DUI and assault after causing an accident involving a motorcyclist.
