JD Vance to Dissolve Two Ohio Nonprofits

Sen. J.D. Vance is dissolving two nonprofit groups he formed in 2016 after the release of his memoir, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' which aimed to address issues in Ohio and other Rust Belt states, including the opioid crisis, job opportunities, and mental health treatment. Both organizations failed to achieve significant success, with the most notable accomplishment being the funding of an addiction specialist in southern Ohio. Vance has acknowledged the shortcomings of these efforts, citing a key organizer's cancer diagnosis as a contributing factor. The first nonprofit, Our Ohio Renewal, folded within five years, and the second was put on hold when Vance ran for Senate in 2022. The remaining funds, about $11,000, will be distributed to causes benefiting Appalachia.
