Father Killed at New Orleans Daycare; Suspect Found Dead

On Sept. 30 in Mid‑City New Orleans, 36-year-old Carl Morgan, a sous chef at Brennan’s, was fatally shot while picking up his two-year-old from the Abeona House Child Discovery Center and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say 21–23-year-old Raymond Wells allegedly carjacked Morgan’s vehicle and fled; deputies used automatic license-plate readers to track the stolen car to Interstate 10 near the Bonnabel exit in Metairie. Deputies found Wells inside with a gunshot wound to the head; he was hospitalized in extremely grave condition and was later pronounced deceased. Authorities obtained a first-degree murder warrant for Wells and said the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating who shot him or whether the wound was self-inflicted. The investigation remains ongoing and family and colleagues described Morgan as a devoted father and talented, generous chef.
