Trump Unveils Gaza Plan with Hostage Timeline
President Donald Trump met Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House and unveiled a U.S. multi‑point (variously described as 20 or 21 items) plan calling for a suspension of military operations in Gaza, the return of remaining hostages within 48–72 hours, and international oversight and reconstruction measures including an economic development component. Netanyahu endorsed the proposal as meeting Israel’s war aims — recovering hostages, dismantling Hamas’s military capacity and ending its political rule — but warned Israel would continue to act if Hamas rejects or violates the deal. Hamas has not accepted the plan and Palestinian sources say the proposal had not reached the group, casting doubt on near‑term implementation. Key Arab and OIC leaders who met with Trump backed an urgent ceasefire, hostage release and a comprehensive reconstruction framework; Oman publicly called for an immediate ceasefire, Palestinian statehood and discussed Gaza’s humanitarian needs with the U.N. secretary‑general. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain catastrophic, with mass displacement and severe shortages of water, food and sanitation, and reports that more than 900,000 Gaza City residents are refusing forced evacuation amid ongoing bombardment. Netanyahu also said he conveyed regret to Qatar’s prime minister over an Israeli strike in Doha that killed several Hamas members and a Qatari security official, underscoring regional tensions surrounding the talks.
