Gebbia, who left his operational role at Airbnb in 2022 and serves on Tesla's board, is leveraging his design and start-up experience to enhance the user experience in government processes. Recently, the Office of Personnel Management managed to process a retirement application digitally in two days, a significant improvement from the usual weeks-long timeline. Gebbia's appointment has sparked some controversy, particularly among Airbnb users, due to his recent political alliances and past criticisms of Trump. His role at DOGE, however, is seen as a critical step towards digitizing and improving government efficiency.
