Former U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan Dies at 80
Former Congressman Rick Nolan, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party member and advocate for Minnesota's Northland, has died at the age of 80. Nolan, who was born in Brainerd, Minnesota, served in Congress twice, first from 1975 to 1981 and again from 2013 to 2019, representing Minnesota's 6th and 8th Congressional Districts. Known for his dedication to working-class causes and his efforts to protect the region from corporate interests, Nolan was fondly remembered by DFL Chairman Ken Martin and others as a champion of the Northland. A celebration of his life is scheduled for October 26 at Breezy Point Resort. After leaving politics in 1981, Nolan worked in business before returning to Congress in 2012. His death was announced by the Minnesota DFL, but the cause was not immediately disclosed.
