Jeep Owner Stellantis Posts €2.3B Half-Year Loss Amid US Tariffs
Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram Truck brands, reported a net loss of €2.3 billion ($2.7 billion) in the first half of 2025, largely due to the impact of new US tariffs and changes in US legislation. The 25% tariff on imported cars imposed by President Donald Trump led to a 25% drop in North American sales volume and a €300 million negative financial impact, prompting Stellantis to pause production at some plants in Canada and Mexico. The company also incurred a €3.3 billion charge related to program cancellations, platform impairments, restructuring, and the elimination of CAFE penalty rates, which now allows the sale of more higher-polluting vehicles in the US. Stellantis's first-half net revenues fell 12.6% to €74.3 billion, with vehicle sales down 6% in the second quarter and 9% in the first quarter year-on-year. New CEO Antonio Filosa is unwinding costly programs such as hydrogen cars to address the company's financial challenges. Stellantis is currently in the early stages of taking measures to improve its performance and profitability, expecting new product launches to have a greater impact in the latter half of 2025.
