US Jewish Groups United Against Trump Anti-Semitism Strategy
Recent anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S., including the murder of two Israeli embassy workers in Washington and Molotov cocktail attacks in Colorado, have prompted widespread concern among American Jewish groups. In Baltimore, 450 community members marched in solidarity as part of the "Run for Their Lives" movement to raise awareness for Israeli hostages and stand against anti-Semitism. However, many Jewish organizations oppose President Donald Trump's approach to combating anti-Semitism, particularly his administration's support for "Project Esther," a Heritage Foundation blueprint that seeks to dismantle alleged "Hamas support networks" on university campuses by targeting professors, foreign students, and funding. Critics, including the Jewish Voice for Peace, label the project as paranoid and a cover for targeting leftist universities, arguing it unjustly brands pro-Palestinian groups as enemies. Despite 89% of U.S. Jews expressing concern about anti-Semitism, a majority disapprove of Trump's strategy, viewing it as politically motivated rather than genuinely protective. This division highlights the complexity within the Jewish community about how best to address the rising threats while balancing civil liberties and political agendas.
