Jimmy Kimmel Live Returns Tuesday After Suspension
Disney announced Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to ABC on Tuesday after the network suspended the show following Kimmel’s remarks about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The company said it paused production “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation,” called some comments “ill‑timed and thus insensitive,” and reinstated the program after “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel. The suspension followed pressure from FCC Chair Brendan Carr and decisions by major ABC affiliates, including Nexstar and Sinclair, to preempt the program, with Carr warning of potential regulatory action. The reversal came amid widespread backlash from Hollywood and free‑speech advocates, including an ACLU‑coordinated letter signed by more than 400 entertainers and statements from SAG‑AFTRA criticizing the suspension. The situation remains developing as affiliates, regulators and industry observers continue to react.
