Hamas Offers Hostage Release Amid Ceasefire Stalemate
Hamas has announced its willingness to release Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, along with the bodies of four deceased hostages, in exchange for aid deliveries and negotiations with Israel towards a permanent ceasefire. The offer comes amidst indirect ceasefire negotiations mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S., though Israel and U.S. officials have dismissed the move as psychological warfare. Israel is holding firm on its demand for 11 live hostages and the remains of 16 captives for the continuation of the Gaza ceasefire. Despite a proposal by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff to extend the ceasefire, Hamas has rejected the terms, leading to a stalemate. Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza as they await further negotiations. The ongoing conflict remains unresolved, with Hamas accused of using hostages as leverage in the geopolitical struggle.
