Gateway Founder Robert Morris Surrenders on Child Abuse Charges

Robert Morris, the 63-year-old founding pastor of Gateway Church in Texas, turned himself in to Oklahoma authorities on charges of child sexual abuse, specifically five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. His surrender follows accusations made by Cindy Clemishire, who claims that Morris sexually abused her starting when she was just 12 years old, with the alleged abuse continuing for four years. Morris resigned from the church last year after the allegations became public and is expected to plead not guilty. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond condemned the case, highlighting the exploitation of Morris's pastoral position. Morris has been released on a $50,000 bond and has surrendered his passport; he faces up to 20 years in prison for each count if convicted. Clemishire expressed gratitude for the authorities involved and hopes for justice after nearly 43 years.
