Gen. Charles Hamilton Fired for Abuse of Authority
Gen. Charles Hamilton was fired from his position as commander of Army Materiel Command following an Army Inspector General investigation that found he improperly influenced a promotion board to favor an unqualified subordinate officer. This action marks the first dismissal of a four-star general in nearly 20 years. Hamilton had attempted to secure a command position for a lieutenant colonel who had previously failed to meet assessment criteria, even requesting a second interview for her after the board unanimously rejected her. Army Secretary Christine Wormuth stated that while the integrity of the Command Assessment Program withstood Hamilton's interference attempts, measures will be taken to enhance its transparency. Hamilton maintains that he did not interfere in the process and cited systemic biases as factors in his mentoring decisions. Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan will serve as acting commander until a permanent replacement is appointed.
