European Commission Welcomes US Gaza Peace Proposal

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other EU leaders have welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's peace proposal aimed at ending the nearly two-year-old war in Gaza. Von der Leyen emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian relief, and the release of all hostages, expressing the EU's readiness to contribute to the peace efforts. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised Trump's 20-point plan, describing it as a step toward lasting peace in the Middle East and reaffirming Pakistan's support for a two-state solution. The U.S. proposal includes an immediate cessation of hostilities, phased Israeli withdrawal, disarmament of Hamas under supervision, and an international reconstruction program, while explicitly ruling out forced displacement of Gaza's population. The plan encourages resuming negotiations and maintains Qatar's role as mediator, with ongoing reviews by Arab states.
