Mark Snow, X-Files Composer, Dies at 78
Mark Snow, born Martin Fulterman, was a Juilliard-trained, Emmy-nominated composer who died at age 78 in his Connecticut home. He was best known for composing the iconic theme for The X-Files, scoring more than 200 episodes and its movies, as well as music for numerous other television series including Smallville, Blue Bloods, Starsky & Hutch, and Hart to Hart. Snow pioneered the use of electronic instruments and synthesizers in TV scoring, with The X-Files theme becoming a chart hit in Europe in the 1990s. Over his nearly 50-year career, he received 15 Emmy nominations and several prestigious awards. Snow mentored many composers, including Sean Callery, and was admired for his generosity, humor, and influence on the industry. He is survived by his wife Glynnis, three daughters, and grandchildren.
