Kosovo Agrees to Temporarily Host 50 US-Deported Migrants
Kosovo has agreed to temporarily accept up to 50 third-country migrants deported from the United States over a one-year period as part of a U.S. strategy to relocate migrants to third countries, aligning with President Donald Trump's intensified immigration enforcement policies. The migrants accepted must meet criteria related to rule of law and public order, with the goal of facilitating their safe return to their home countries. Kosovo, one of Europe's poorest nations, views this cooperation as part of its broader effort to strengthen ties with the U.S. and support its Euro-Atlantic integration aspirations. The U.S. State Department confirmed ongoing collaboration with Balkan countries, including Kosovo, as part of a wider plan to manage illegal and mass migration while enhancing border security. This initiative follows a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing the Trump administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of migrants from Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua, thereby accelerating deportations. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is also pressuring other Balkan states, particularly Serbia, to accept deported migrants, with Serbia potentially benefiting from political and economic ties to the Trump family and administration affiliates.
