Four Killed in Manhattan Skyscraper Shooting Including NYPD Officer
Four people were killed in a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue, a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper that houses the NFL headquarters and several real estate firms. The victims included off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam, who was hailed as a hero for his sacrifice and was working security at the time; Wesley LePatner, a high-ranking executive at Blackstone and mother of two; Aland Etienne, a dedicated security guard; and Julia Hyman, an associate at Rudin Management and Cornell graduate. The shooter, Shane Devon Tamura, 27, traveled from Las Vegas with apparent anger toward the NFL but mistakenly entered the real estate firm's offices before killing himself. Authorities continue investigating Tamura's motive. Officials including Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams attended a vigil honoring the victims, emphasizing compassion and the community's grief.
