Israel Strikes Multiple Houthi Targets After Missile Intercept
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted multiple airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, including key ports such as Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, as well as the Ras Khatib power station and the seized vessel Galaxy Leader, which the Houthis use for military purposes. These strikes, involving around 20 fighter jets dropping over 50 munitions, are in response to repeated Houthi missile and drone attacks against Israeli territory and shipping in the Red Sea, acts the Houthis claim are in solidarity with Palestinians. The Houthis launched ballistic missiles toward Israel, triggering sirens across several regions, but Israeli air defenses intercepted these attacks, preventing casualties or damage. Israeli officials have warned of harsh responses to continued Houthi aggression, with Defense Minister Israel Katz comparing Yemen's fate to Tehran's and signaling ongoing military actions. U.S. officials, including Ambassador Mike Huckabee, have recognized the persistent threat posed by the Houthis and suggested that American military assets used against Iranian nuclear facilities might also be deployed against the Houthis. The conflict underscores the broader Iran-backed proxy struggle, as the Houthis utilize civilian infrastructure for military operations and Israel targets these strategic assets to disrupt their capabilities.
