The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI have uncovered an alleged assassination plot orchestrated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against President-elect Donald Trump, involving multiple individuals. Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian national and alleged asset of the IRGC, is accused of recruiting American accomplices Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt to carry out the plot, with Rivera and Loadholt now arrested. Shakeri, who remains at large in Iran, was allegedly tasked with developing a plan to kill Trump within a week, and he indicated that the Iranian regime had already invested significantly in such efforts. In addition to Trump, Shakeri was reportedly instructed to surveil an Iranian dissident and two Jewish Americans, with a financial incentive of $500,000 for executing the plans. Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the serious threat posed by Iran to U.S. national security, linking the plots to the regime's desire for revenge following the killing of Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
