North Korea Nears Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Capable of US Strike, South Korean President Reports
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has warned that North Korea is in the final stages of developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of delivering a nuclear strike on the United States, with only atmospheric re-entry technology left to master. Despite this progress, North Korea has yet to fully succeed in making the missile operational, but experts believe this hurdle will soon be overcome. President Lee, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly and during an investor relations session at the New York Stock Exchange, emphasized the urgent security risks posed by Pyongyang's continuing nuclear weapons and missile programs. He also underscored the importance of reducing these risks to attract investment and improve regional stability. Meanwhile, South Korea's Unification Minister highlighted North Korea's significant accumulation of fissile material, suggesting a growing nuclear arsenal. President Lee reiterated that U.S. President Donald Trump is the only viable negotiating partner for North Korea, while Pyongyang continues to reject dialogue with Seoul.
