Texas Troopers Encounter Over 200 Undocumented Migrants

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers recently encountered a group of 211 undocumented migrants in Maverick County, including 60 unaccompanied minors, highlighting ongoing issues at the U.S.-Mexico border. Among those found was a 2-year-old girl from El Salvador, who traveled alone and carried a piece of paper with her parents' contact information. Despite a nationwide decrease in illegal crossings due to stricter asylum policies, Texas continues to grapple with a significant number of unaccompanied minors, with over 60,000 reported in the past fiscal year. DPS spokesperson Chris Olivarez emphasized the dangers these children face from criminal trafficking networks, noting that over 900 children have been rescued under Operation Lone Star since its inception. Governor Greg Abbott has announced measures to enhance border security, including extending buoy barriers along the Rio Grande. The situation raises urgent concerns about the safety and treatment of vulnerable children amid ongoing immigration challenges.
