Diddy Sentenced; Release Projected May 8, 2028
Sean “Diddy” Combs was convicted in July on two counts of transporting people for purposes of prostitution and was acquitted of racketeering and sex‑trafficking charges. On Oct. 3 he was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison, five years of supervised release, and a $500,000 fine; the Bureau of Prisons lists his projected release date as May 8, 2028, reflecting time detained since his September 2024 arrest and potential good‑behavior credits. His lawyers have appealed and asked the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to expedite briefing and set oral argument in April, arguing prosecutors misapplied the Mann Act and that a speedy appeal could reduce his term given about 14 months already served and program credits. Prosecutors had sought about 11 years, and the judge called the offenses “serious,” praised the victims, and imposed a shorter term than the probation office recommended. Combs’ team has pursued clemency amid media reports of presidential consideration — which the White House has denied — and says the arrest and conviction have harmed his businesses and employees. A former inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn said Combs ran an entrepreneurship and personal‑development class that helped unify rival gangs and assist fellow inmates, and also described a separate knife incident at the facility that has raised safety concerns.
