Georgia Court Orders Fulton County to Confirm GOP Election Board Nominees
A Fulton County Superior Court judge ruled that the county's Board of Commissioners must confirm two Republican nominees, Jason Frazier and Julie Adams, to the Board of Elections, rejecting the commission's previous refusal to approve them. The court found that the commissioners do not have the discretion to veto qualified nominees, who must be county residents, electors, and not candidates for elected office. The legal dispute escalated after the Democratic-controlled commission voted along party lines to table the nominations, prompting the Georgia Republican Party to sue. Both Adams and Frazier have been controversial figures: Adams refused to certify the 2024 primary election results and has ties to far-right election groups, while Frazier has filed election-related lawsuits alleging voter roll issues. Fulton Commissioner Marvin Arrington criticized the ruling as stripping the commission of decision-making authority and indicated plans to appeal, while Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McKoon praised the decision as affirming the party's right to select its representatives. This ruling highlights ongoing tensions in Fulton County over election administration and partisan control of the Board of Elections.
