Trump Threatens New Tariffs Amid Global Instability
President Donald Trump has threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods if Beijing does not withdraw its 34% retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, with the new tariffs set to be effective from April 9th, 2025. He also announced the termination of trade talks with China if their demands are not met, causing global market instability and significant losses in both Asian and European stock markets. The White House dismissed rumors of a 90-day pause on tariffs, maintaining Trump’s aggressive trade stance. Trump has expressed an unwillingness to negotiate a trade deal with China unless the U.S. trade deficit, which he claims exceeds $1 trillion, is addressed. Additionally, Trump stated that other countries have shown interest in trade negotiations, which will commence immediately.
