Minnesota, New Jersey AGs Sue Glock Over Gun Design

Attorneys General from Minnesota and New Jersey have filed lawsuits against gun manufacturer Glock, accusing the company of selling handguns that can be easily modified into illegal machine guns using a device known as a 'Glock switch'. These lawsuits allege that Glock has been aware of this issue since the 1980s but has failed to alter the design to prevent such modifications. The lawsuits, part of a broader initiative by Democratic attorneys general from 15 states, aim to hold gun companies accountable for gun violence under state civil liability and consumer protection laws. Minnesota AG Keith Ellison claims that Glock promotes these automatic capabilities despite knowing they are illegal for the public, citing incidents like the Minneapolis nightclub shooting and others involving converted Glocks. Glock, which dominates the U.S. handgun market, did not respond to requests for comment. The lawsuits seek to prevent Glock from distributing easily modified guns and demand restitution, though no specific amounts have been disclosed.
