Angela Alsobrooks has made history by becoming the first Black female senator from Maryland, defeating former Republican Governor Larry Hogan and pledging to codify Roe v. Wade protections. In Delaware, Lisa Blunt Rochester has also made history as the first Black woman senator from the state, while Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. Virginia's John McGuire won a contentious GOP primary and is set to represent the 5th District, while Eugene Vindman, known for his whistleblowing during the Trump administration, will represent the 7th District. In California, Adam Schiff replaces the late Dianne Feinstein in the Senate, focusing on national security and foreign policy, while Lateefah Simon will take over Rep. Barbara Lee’s House seat. In Washington, Republican Michael Baumgartner will succeed Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and Emily Randall has become the first LGBTQ Latina in Congress after defeating her opponent in the 6th District race.
