Russian Strikes Damage Infrastructure, Cause Fires, Injuries in Odesa, Zaporizhzhia
On August 20-21, 2025, Russian forces launched multiple drone and missile strikes targeting key infrastructure in Ukraine's Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions. In Izmail, Odesa region, up to 20 Shahed kamikaze drones caused extensive damage to port facilities, fuel and energy storage sites, and production premises, igniting large fires and disabling a Panama-flagged chemical tanker offloading diesel fuel. One civilian was injured in the Izmail attacks, with emergency services deploying numerous personnel and equipment to contain the fires and provide medical assistance. Separately, two strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, damaging several high-rise and private residential buildings with shattered windows and partial destruction, though no casualties were reported. Local authorities emphasized ongoing efforts to assess damage, restore utilities, and investigate the incidents, condemning the attacks as crimes against civilians. Both regions remain under close monitoring by municipal services and law enforcement as they work to mitigate further risks and support affected communities.
