OpenAI Expands ChatGPT With Apps, AgentKit
At DevDay 2025, OpenAI pushed ChatGPT beyond a chat tool by unveiling Apps built with a new Apps SDK, AgentKit for building agents, and cheaper real‑time voice models as part of a move toward an agentic, OS‑like assistant. The new “talking to apps” feature lets logged‑in users call third‑party services by name and use interactive interfaces inside ChatGPT; early partners include Spotify, Canva, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, Booking.com and Expedia, with some EU users initially excluded and a developer app directory coming later. OpenAI also introduced Instant Checkout and e‑commerce integrations with Etsy and Shopify so users can buy directly in chat, a capability the company frames as underpinning future monetization and a potential challenge to search and retail rivals. Live demos showed real‑time Spotify playlist creation and Figma FigJam/diagram generation, and the Figma demo coincided with a notable post‑DevDay stock rally. OpenAI said these features will roll out regionally and evolve over time as developers and partners refine integrations.
