AP Sues White House Over Press Access Ban

The Associated Press (AP) has filed a lawsuit against three Trump administration officials after being barred from presidential events, including the Oval Office and Air Force One, beginning February 11. The ban was allegedly imposed in retaliation for AP's refusal to adopt the administration's terminology, changing 'Gulf of Mexico' to 'Gulf of America.' Filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the lawsuit argues that this action violates both the First Amendment and Fifth Amendment due process protections. The AP seeks an emergency court order to restore access, emphasizing the threat to American freedoms posed by government attempts to control speech and retaliate against independent media. While about 40 other news organizations have shown support for the AP's position, the White House has not commented on the suit.
