Musk, Trump Back Cuomo in NYC Race

On the eve of New York City’s mayoral election more than 735,000 New Yorkers had cast early in-person ballots as candidates made final pushes. Tech billionaire Elon Musk publicly endorsed Andrew Cuomo on X, urging voters to “VOTE CUOMO” and warning that a vote for Republican Curtis Sliwa would effectively boost progressive Zohran Mamdani, joining other wealthy critics. President Donald Trump urged Republican voters to cross party lines for Cuomo, labeled Mamdani a “communist”/“socialist” and threatened to withhold federal funds if Mamdani wins. Cuomo is running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary and remains burdened by his 2021 resignation, campaigning as a centrist focused on fiscal discipline and public safety. Mamdani, a democratic socialist who would be the city’s first Muslim mayor if elected, has led many polls while campaigning on higher taxes for the ultra‑rich, expanded affordable housing and stronger unions. Polls show Mamdani leading though some indicate his margin is narrowing amid high-profile interventions as Election Day approaches.
