Washington AG Sues Adams County Over Immigration Issue
Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown has filed a lawsuit against the Adams County Sheriff's Office, accusing it of illegally collaborating with federal immigration officials. The lawsuit claims the sheriff's office violated the Keep Washington Working Act by holding individuals based on immigration status and sharing confidential information with federal agents. The state's law prohibits local resources from aiding federal immigration enforcement, but since 2022, the Adams County Sheriff's Office has allegedly ignored this, even aligning with America First Legal, an organization founded by a Trump aide. Brown argues that public safety should not be politicized and that the state has the right to decide resource allocation. Negotiations for compliance were underway until the Sheriff's Office adopted a more rigid stance following Trump's inauguration. America First Legal has pledged to defend Adams County, arguing against what they perceive as state overreach.
