UConn Hosts Bipartisan Discussion on Civic Engagement

On September 26, 2024, UConn's Dodd Center for Human Rights will host a bipartisan discussion featuring former Congress members Loretta Sanchez and Fred Upton to promote civic engagement and civil discourse. Civics education is gaining momentum across the U.S., with states like North Carolina and Indiana implementing diverse requirements to enhance students' understanding of government and history. In Minnesota, MPR News has launched a comprehensive voter guide to assist voters in making informed decisions for the upcoming general election. Additionally, the Allegheny Coalition for Youth Engagement gathered 150 high school students in Pennsylvania to educate them on voter registration and civic involvement. Voter registration among young people remains a challenge, with initiatives like High School Voter Registration Week and local efforts in Allegheny County working to increase youth civic engagement and voter turnout. In Indianapolis, the Opportunity Indianapolis program by Leadership Indianapolis aims to educate residents about local issues, fostering community engagement and leadership.
